Hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state in which the limiting beliefs and behaviors that are programmed in our subconscious mind can be accessed.  In this relaxed state, positive suggestions are offered that rewrite beliefs that have sabotaged our success in different areas of our life.

How does hypnosis work with the subconscious mind?

From the time we are born, we are gathering information from our environment that is programmed and recorded in our subconscious. The subconscious is a repository of all of our life, recording not only the events that have occurred, but more importantly, the interpretations we have made about what has happened.  The interpretations are the beliefs that can limit what is possible for us.

It is the job of the subconscious to screen everything that comes in through our senses.  If there is a conflict between what we say we want (our conscious mind, including affirmations), and what we believe we can have (what is programmed in the subconscious), the subconscious will always win.  In the relaxed state of hypnosis, the critical factor of the conscious mind is quieted, allowing entry into the highly suggestible subconscious.  Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind and brings it into alignment with our conscious mind through the positive suggestions offered that rewrite the beliefs that have limited us. Because the subconscious is driving our behavior, changes occur when there are new beliefs.

What is a hypnotic trance?

We are in and out of a hypnotic trance many times during the day.  Have you ever been driving and missed an exit?  That dream state you were in when you drove past your exit is the same state that you are in when hypnotized.  The outer world has faded as the inner world becomes the focus. The difference with a hypnosis session and this occurrence is that you are being guided and offered positive suggestions that will rewrite the inner tape that is in the subconscious.  Hypnosis enables you to change behaviors and habits that have been out of your control.  What you picture you become, and the positive suggestions that are offered in a hypnosis session create those new images and pictures.

Will I quack like a duck?

Funny as this question may seem, it is one that is asked frequently, often in jest, often with a tone of seriousness.  The answer is: only if you want to.  What many people are familiar with is what is called stage hypnosis, done for fun and entertainment.  In the work that I do, hypnosis is a powerful tool for healing, where positive changes are made, giving the client control in areas of life that a habit or behavior has been controlling them.  In hypnosis, the client is ALWAYS in control, and will not do anything that they don’t want to do.
